Tell me a little bit about yourself:

In my life, I have been blessed and burdened with so many different experiences that have challenged and shaped the lens through which I see the world.  Prior to my career in mental health, I worked in the corporate world where I gained practical knowledge and invaluable relationships. During this time, I also embarked on a personal journey of finding healing for the parts of myself that felt broken and lifeless.  From this personal revival, I found a fierce love for others and heard a calling to step into my purpose of counseling.

How long have you lived in Colorado?

I have lived in Colorado all of my life. I tried to move away one time, and that did not last long!  I love that every season in Colorado brings new experiences and opportunities. Colorado has given me a passion for the moments that take my breath away, whether that is because of the beautiful scenery or a steep incline!  I am truly blessed to call this magical place my home.

What are your favorite activities to do during your spare time?

In my spare time, I like to have a healthy balance of quality time with others and alone time. I have an extensive network of friends and community that I am intentional about spending time with.  Typically my spare time is filled with coffee dates, hikes, volunteering, football games, deep conversation, and shared meals. When I am by myself I love reading, learning, and watching movies. I also have to admit I love doing laundry and cleaning my house!

What drove you to pursue counseling?

From a young age, I had the ability to step into the areas of other people’s lives that were uncomfortable and painful.  I have an intrinsic desire to understand why people are the way that they are, and to explore how experiences influence the way we relate to the world and other people.  I consider counseling to be a huge honor and a responsibility that I take very seriously. I find great joy in witnessing my clients pursue health, purpose, and meaning.

What type of clients are you able to have sessions with?

I show up best as a counselor for clients who are yearning to be seen, heard, and known.  The greatest gift I can give my clients is a safe space for them to be authentic and transparent, as raw or as freeing as that might be for each individual.  In sessions I work to help clients identify patterns, thoughts, and behaviors that no longer serve them. Together, through an emotion and solution focused approach, we can change the way you feel about yourself and your circumstances.

Are there any groups of people you are especially excited to work with?

I am especially excited to work with individuals who are seeking counseling for the first time.  I feel this gives me a very sacred opportunity to show them the power of unconditional acceptance and genuine connection.

Are you planning on doing any specialized types of counseling?

Because my background is in working with addictions and with individuals in the criminal justice system, my style has developed from a solution focused and cognitive behavioral background.  Since I tend to be more emotion focused, I also use rational emotive behavioral therapy. I believe that my clients appreciate my approach because while we walk through areas of deep wounding and emotional suffering, we also practically and systematically inspire sustainable solutions.

Are you pursuing any specialized certifications?

I have met the requirements and am currently waiting for my Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC II) certification to be approved.  It is my hope to continue on to become a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC). I also intend to pursue a trauma focused modality such as EMDR or brainspotting within in the next two years.

What can someone expect in their first session with you?

In my first session, I like to learn about where my client is coming from and what experiences contributed to their desire and need to seek counseling.  I believe that the client is the expert in their life and in order to provide the best care, it is of utmost importance for me to understand their worldview.  Because it can sometimes feel scary to start the process of building trust and safety, I sometimes use humor in session to help clients feel more comfortable.

How do you use your faith to guide your patients?

I understand that my clients are coming from different backgrounds with different belief systems that are intensely and intimately interwoven into who they are.  I believe that faith often intercedes in the struggles that bring us to counseling and inviting spirituality into the therapeutic relationship can be very powerful.  My faith has enabled me to grow in humility, hope, and grace, all values that I believe developed who I am as a counselor.
