As a parent, we know when something is not quite right in our child’s world. From the moment we see them or hear their voice we can intuitively sense a disturbance. Sometimes we can figure it out and work through the problem; other times we feel lost, alone, and confused. And even still there are times where our child won’t open up to us or struggles to communicate what is going on in their world. As a parent, I understand the frustrations that come with parenting. And just like you, I share that intuition when it comes to children.
At some point during our journey through parenthood we wish and long for the mythical “handbook.” We ponder what it would be like to leave the hospital with our newborn and have the nurse hand us the handbook with our child’s name decorated neatly on the front. This handbook would list custom solutions for how to guide and nurture our child. Unfortunately, this handbook doesn’t exist, so we seek out advice from others, scourge the internet, or buy the latest books. Each milestone even to the experienced parent can of course bring about unique obstacles. There are times when it seems no matter what we can’t find the answers and need to seek out the help of a professional. Every child comes with unique strengths and challenges. I seek to find and build upon those strengths while helping the child and family work through life’s difficult challenges together.
I am passionate about working with children of all ages through all of life’s developments. My career has been focused on working with children, families, and couples to strengthen relationships and break unhealthy cycles. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I have several specializations specifically geared towards these populations. I am a certified therapist in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This is a process specifically for children/adolescents who have been the victim of or witnessed trauma. Also I am a Level 2 Certified Gottman Therapist. I enjoy working individually with children and adolescents. Simultaneously I keep their parents informed of the therapeutic process and progress. Additionally, I enjoy working with entire families together and couples who struggle with issues such as parenting, blended families, and communication.
It is my joy and responsibility to create a safe and nurturing environment to assist clients and families in navigating life’s journey. The therapeutic process is a creative and powerful endeavor in which all treatment goals are tailored to each individual, couple, or family. I also have walked hundreds of families through this progression of healing. Of course, I use clinical knowledge and skills paired with my own sense of humor, creativity, and high energy levels to create a strong therapeutic bond. I aim at helping others tear down their emotional walls to make room for growth and understanding. Let me help you write your custom handbook for coping with life’s challenges.
