Tell me a little bit about yourself:

I am 57 years old. I have been married 34 years and have three adult children. I really like bad weather and getting outside. One of my favorite things is to get into a cold bed.

How long have you lived in Colorado?

I was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in south-central Washington state in a very small town with an economy based on orchards and lumber. A great place to grow up. I’ve been in Colorado since 1982, when I came back east to go to college here. I finished my bachelor’s degree at Colorado Christian College in 1987. It took me a while since we were making a family and trying to get through school. Fun times.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

I have always loved the outdoors and so some of my favorite things to do are hiking and bow hunting.  I can’t bow hunt year round, so I will practice archery with my longbow as often as I can. It seems my weekends are often taken with house projects as well, I am good at that so it is fun for me, mostly. We will explore Colorado as well.

What can a client expect in their first session with you?

The first session is a time for us to see if we are a good fit, for me to hear what is going on and to give an idea of what the goals are, to find out what you want to accomplish or need my help with. I work from a goal centered model that wants to get stuff done, get you where you want to be.

What inspired you to develop The Solid Man Process?

I am passionate about being able to take my own journey of health, strength and growth so other men can do the same. If I can do it, then any man can. The Solid Man Process is a mix of all the things I have learned, what pragmatically works, and tons of great feedback from the men who have worked through it. The Solid Man Process has helped a pretty large group of men grow into strength and confidence. Even though it isn’t considered “evidence-based”, it has been proven to work with many men.

Your groups are on-going, so men can join at any part.  How does this work?

The groups are open, so a man can start anytime he wants. He’ll be just starting, some of the guys will be just finishing up and some are in the middle. It works great because you can hear where you’ll be going, where you’ve been and be able to be a strong influence to the men who are just starting. The groups don’t lose any momentum.

Does someone need to read your books before joining your group?

Not at all. The books are available on Amazon and have the same content as the group lessons. If anyone wants to get an idea of what the Solid Man Process is all about he can read the books, or just jump in.

What is your favorite part of leading group therapy?

I love seeing the changes that happens right before my eyes. Literally, a man will come his first group session with his head down, looking defeated or deflated. As he begins to find out who he really is and gain some confidence, his head comes up and he is way more interactive. No longer defeated. Everyone sees it. It’s amazing.

What drew you to become a counselor?

I do believe it was a spiritual process for me. I do think God made me for this, has impassioned me for this and seems to have given me a calling for this. I think it is part of my present purpose in life. It was a rough go to get the license and all the schooling and work hours as a young husband and dad, but it has been all worth it.

How do you use your faith to guide your patients?

As a follower of Jesus, my faith is a significant part of my life. It has also influenced me to want to see every person to live in freedom, to be who they have been designed to be. Even though my faith is big to me, I allow each person guide the process to build upon their own faith and perspective on life.
