We live in a fast-paced culture where technology and media constantly invade our lives. This can be overwhelming and confusing to many teens, and can lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety and other problems. It can be puzzling and frustrating for parents to know what to say or how to help. As someone who grew up in Douglas County and has been working with teens in the area for several years now, I understand the complexities and demands teens can feel in this environment and culture. I have seen how hard it can be at times for parents to know what to do to help and guide their teen through this phase of life.

Along with my specific trainings and supervision experiences regarding teen issues, I have focused on helping teens and their families through a variety of situations including anxiety, depression, social media and technology issues, academic stress, family transitions (divorce, remarriage, blending, moving, etc.), self-harm, suicidality, and communication issues. I am well equipped to journey with you and your teen toward overall mental health and wellness. I utilize a cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach with specific knowledge and trainings in neuropsychology. I believe that understanding the way our brains function and the connection between thoughts, behaviors and emotions can lead to the formation of healthier ways of being.

My approach when working with teens and their families is to create a trusting relationship through individual counseling, parent check-ins, and family sessions. I can equip you and your teen with coping skills regarding the outward issues that are manifesting, as well as going to a deeper level of understanding between mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. I can also help your family resolve conflicts and past hurts to improve the quality of family relationships. My goal is for teens and parents to have a better understanding of the world they live in and how to navigate whatever issues they are facing together. I have seen many teens and their parents find insight, meaning and deeper connections that instill in them the love, support and responsibility they need to make it through this phase of life and succeed as young adults.

If my experiences and approaches sound like a good fit for your family’s needs, I would love to help you on this journey! You can call our front desk today to get more information or set up your first appointment.
