Nick Van Atta, M.A., LPCC

Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate

accepting new clients

At the outset of life’s journey, many carry aspirations to respond eagerly to the call-to-adventure, in order to lead rich and meaningful lives. However, along the way, there are plenty of adversities—trauma, hopelessness, anxiety, shame, catastrophe, and more–that can impede one’s journey. To boot, in a rapidly changing, shapeshifting world, confusion and disorientation can create difficulty in making sense of one’s experiences and seeing a path forward.

I’ve certainly encountered these struggles in my own time, which has fueled my professional mission to help individuals heal from traumatic experiences and psycho-emotional injuries, and to see them unburdened from the obstacles that hinder their growth. I also want to aid people in making sense of their lives so that they can (re)discover their identity, purpose, and direction.

With a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and experience in trauma, complex trauma, dissociative disorders, anxiety, bipolar, depression, substance abuse, and more, I bring a diverse skill set to my practice. Furthermore, drawing on a decade-long background in narrative filmmaking, I highly regard the power of story and utilize this strength to assist clients in uncovering the meaning within their own stories.

Collaborating closely with clients, I tailor treatment goals to their specific needs and desires. My approach integrates trauma-informed, cognitive-behavioral, attachment, psychodynamic, narrative, and existential modalities to address a range of challenges. Regardless of the issues at hand, our initial focus will be on building a therapeutic relationship grounded in safety, trust, and respect.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, I work under supervision of an experienced clinician and can offer reduced rates for sessions. As we embark on this adventure together, I am prepared to support you whenever you are ready for the first step.
