What is Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder?

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is typically first recognized in childhood. ADHD can present as the inattentive type, the hyperactive type, or mixed inattentive and hyperactive. A few characteristics of ADHD include lack of focus, inattentiveness, difficulty with impulse control, and other distracting behaviors that impact all areas of a person’s life.

A child with ADHD might have difficulty in school or with making friends, and it is important to seek help as early as possible to find the right tools and strategies that will be useful for that child. Adults with ADHD can also learn strategies and skills to help them in the workplace, relationships, and completing daily tasks.

How is ADHD diagnosed?

Our clinicians at Grace Counseling are trained to assess for signs of ADHD and can help you implement steps to manage the symptoms of ADHD and reach your goals. Formal diagnosis of ADHD must be done through a series of tests. Psychological testing will help determine what type of ADHD and develop a treatment plan that is appropriate. Contact one of our Licensed Psychologists who specialize in psychological testing to start the process of diagnostic clarification.

At Grace Counseling, we have both male and female counselors who specialize in helping others with ADHD.  Our front office staff can answer any questions you may have about beginning with a counselor, so call (720) 489-8555 or click here to request your first appointment.
