It is hard to believe that 2023 is already upon us. If you are anything like me you are still defaulting to writing 2022 every single time you need to write the date even though it has been several weeks now since we rolled into the New Year. It turns out that habits can be hard to break.

Thankfully, just like writing a new date each year for many of us the New Year season offers an opportunity for reflection in our personal lives regarding the repetition of current habits. Perhaps some of what we are engaging in currently is working quite well, and we want to work to maintain our progress.

More likely though, our thoughts turn to what needs to be updated and refreshed in our lives. This could be anything from a relationship, to our ways of coping, to how often we get the oil changed in our car. The good news is that whatever it is for you that needs to undergo some reconstruction you do not have to try to go it alone. Sharing with a trusted friend for accountability significantly increases the likelihood of follow-through. Discussing your goals with a coworker or partner may assist in framing your goals more realistically.

Finally, if you are exhausting all of your resources and still find yourself feeling stuck this New Year season can be an excellent time to talk with a professional counselor about your concerns. Here is to a renewed 2022 2023!
